Luaka Bop
Founded in 1988 by musician David Byrne (Talking Heads), Luaka Bop was initially started as vehicle for David’s passion for world music with its sole purpose to be a means to release a few Brazilian compilations. Recently celebrating its 25th year, the unassuming almost quirky label has since grown to include music from Cuba, Africa, the Far East, and beyond whilst also being responsible for introducing the rest of the world to such unique acts like: Doug Hream Blunt; Tom Ze; Tim Maia; Susana Baca and the incredible William Onyeabor. If you know of Luaka Bop then this shouldn’t come as surprise that AHB is finally dedicating an Adventure Tape to celebrating some of the acts from this label, in fact you’re probably wondering why it took so long. For the rest of you, enjoy the pleasures of a new discovery and get searching for more.
